Upstream's leadership team continues to grow

Since the beginning of 2019, Upstream has hired nearly 50 new staff members across three states and over the next few years, our work to expand contraceptive access will reach more than a million women annually. This incredible scale and growth would simply not be possible without an amazing team of mission-driven leaders across Upstream. Most recently, we welcomed two new senior leadership members.

Ann Quandt
joined in June as our first Chief Finance and Administration Officer. Ann was most recently the CFO at Partners In Health, a remarkable, global non-profit that has successfully brought healthcare to some of the world’s highest need populations. During her almost 11 years at PIH, Ann saw the organization grow from $50 million in annual revenue to over $150 million. Ann led the finance organization (accounting, grant management, financial planning and analysis), and well as the IT and Analytics and Applications teams, and oversaw 150 finance staff across 10 countries. Having started her impressive career as an investment banker, Ann ultimately made the switch toward her true passion: working toward social and economic opportunity through health equity. Ann is known throughout the social impact space as a deeply mission-driven, highly successful operator who gets things done.

Melanie Manning joined us in February as our Vice President of People Operations. Prior to Upstream, Melanie was at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) where she led the Human Resources strategy and operations for the Emeryville, CA site. Prior to her role in Emeryville, Melanie was a Director of HR for NIBR’s Translational Medicine organization in Cambridge, MA. She has a passion for relationship building and fostering trust to help organizational talent be their best, authentic selves. She and her team will be key in helping us achieve our ambitious hiring goals and evolving our talent development, performance management, and organizational culture initiatives.

As we find ourselves in this massive growth and replication phase, we’re thrilled to add experienced leaders like Ann and Melanie to our team to provide horsepower to continue on our growth path. Scaling fast, and in multiple geographies, is complicated work, and their experience will be essential for our success.
