UpStream supports the mission of the Lakes Region United Way by working collaboratively to strengthen the community by connecting diverse
individuals and organizations through the promotion of civic engagement
initiatives. Our service area includes all of Belknap County, and southern parts of Carroll and Grafton Counties in central New Hampshire.
UpStream was founded in 1989 as a community-wide primary prevention coalition to strengthen individuals and families 'upstream', before problems occur. UpStream quickly earned a reputation as a leader in presenting new and exciting programs for youth and families. In 2005, UpStream merged with Lakes Region United Way.
UpStream is perhaps best known for its email sharing network which solves problems, shares needs, promotes services, lists volunteer opportunities, and connects members who may not know each other. To increase its impact to the community, the UpStream network became The UpStreamer, a weekly newsletter published every Thursday. UpStream also offers parental education, non-profit professional development opportunities, and community forums.
Parent Education – We offer free parent programs organized by age groups from birth to age 18 on many topics, planned in collaboration with and often co-sponsored by our Parenting Committee volunteers and schools. View current offerings and information on other programs in the community here.
Community Forums – Forums are sponsored to bring the community together to address topics such as education, health, community-economic development and partnerships.
